Best 50 Amp RV Extension Cords & Adapters Reviewed 2024

How Long Can A 50 Amp RV Extension Cord Be?

While most RVers try to not need more than 25 to 50 feet of 50 amp RV cord there are a few companies out there who make 75 and even 100 foot ones.

The extra long lengths require thicker copper cables and need to be able to handle that much power being transferred at a longer distance.

When it comes to 50 amp RV extension cords the heavier they are the better the quality is.

50 amp RV receptacles normally require a NEMA 14-50P power cord plug. That’s the kind with 4 straight prongs, 3 of them being flat and one round.

All of the 50 amp extension cords in this review have a male NEMA 14-50 plug to fit into any standard 50 amp receptacle.

The only thing you need to be aware of is what kind of female end your RV requires. Many will just need a NEMA 14-50 female end but some have a twist-lock receptacle on the outside.

Best 50 Amp RV Extension Cords Reviews

1. Camco 50 Amp RV Extension Cord

Camco Power Grip 30-Ft 50 Amp RV Extension Cord - Rated for 125/250...

Check Price at Amazon

Camco makes some of the best and most popular RV extension cords on the market today. But as a small warning, the plugs are huge with great big handles on the back.

This is mostly a pro but if you need to feed the RV power cord through a small hole you may want to measure first to make sure the plug will fit.

The plugs are made for the standard 50 amp RV services. The male plug fits NEMA 14-50P outlets you will find in RV parks and the female end is the same configuration.

The Camco 50 amp RV extension cord is not for connecting directly to twist lock (SS2-50R) RVs.

There are two length options 30 feet (linked to above) and 50 feet (click to view on Amazon).

The 30 foot 50 amp RV extension cord weighs 21 lbs and the 50 foot one weighs 35 lbs.

The inner core is made with copper and 6/3 + 8/1 gauge wire is used to be able to safely transfer the high 125/250 volts required for 50 amp power.

Both lengths of RV power cords are rated for up to 12,500 watts.

The outer cover is made of durable PVC that is STW rated meaning it’s heat resistant and weatherproof.

The plugs have extra large handles you can use to more easily disconnect the cables and they use the standard 90 degree prongs to take pressure off of the cable/plug connection.

Included with purchase is a cord carry strap with a handle.

The Camco 50 Amp RV Extension Cord has everything you need to get power to your camper. With quality materials and a durable design, you can’t go wrong with Camco.

PROS

  • Large Grip Handles
  • Two Length Options
  • Storage Strap Included
  • Durable Plugs & Cable

CONS

  • No LED Power Indicators

2. RV GUARD 50 Amp RV Power Extension Cord

The RV Guard is another 50 amp RV extension cord that has the standard 14-50 plugs on each end. Both plugs use the 90 degree design that fits RVing so well.

This power cable is not for directly connecting to SS2-50R (twist-lock) RV outlets.

The wiring is made with 6/3+8/1 gauge copper wire with an STW jacket that is weather, heat, and oil resistant.

Both plugs have a large handle built into the plastic for easy disconnect.

The female end even has a small LED light that will indicate when it’s receiving power.

There are 3 length options: 15, 25, and 50 feet.

Each length is rated for 6,250 watts at 125 volts or 12,500 watts at 250 volts. Any of the lengths meet the requirements for 50 amp RV service.

Included with purchase is a plastic cable storage strap and a storage bag.

The longest 50 foot 50 amp RV power cord weighs almost 34 lbs so make sure you have a good place to put it when not in use.

The RV GUARD 50 Amp RV Power Extension Cord covers the basics and then some. It has a useful LED light indicator and an easy grip built in handle on each end.

PROS

  • Large Grip Handles
  • 3 Length Options
  • Storage Strap Included
  • Durable Plugs & Cable
  • LED Power Indicator

CONS

  • Connection Between Cable & Plug Could Be Stronger

3. Miady 50 Amp RV Power Cord

Miady 30ft 50Amp Heavy Duty RV/EV Extension Cord, Easy Unplug Design...

The Miaday is a simple 50 amp power cord I added to the review because of its quality.

There is only one length option, 30 feet. This length is a good overall option because it’s longer than what comes standard with an RV but it’s also a manageable length that weighs only 22 lbs which is better for travel.

The plugs both use the standard 50 amp 14-50 layout with 90 degree heads for RV use. This is not for connecting directly to 50 amp twist lock outlets (SS-SS2-50).

The inner wire is made with copper that is 6/3+8/1 gauge. The jacket or sleeve used is STW rated which means it’s weather, heat, and oil resistant.

The plugs have the same style of grips used for the RV Guard reviewed above. They are heavy duty and easy to plug in and unplug.

Included with purchase is a plastic storage strap with a handle you can use to carry or hang the 50 amp extension cord.

The 30 feet of cord is rated for 125/250 volts and 12,500 watts.

If 25 feet isn’t quite long enough for your RV power needs but 50 feet is just too much the 30 foot Miady 50 Amp RV Power Cord might be exactly what you need.

It’s simple, there are no LED indicators but it’s made with quality materials that will last for years of RV camping.

PROS

  • Large Grip Handless
  • Storage Strap Included
  • Durable Plugs & Cable

CONS

  • Connection Between Cable & Plug Could Be Stronger
  • No LED Power Indicator
  • 1 Length Option

4. Parkworld RV 50 Amp Extension Cord

Parkworld 60110 RV/EV 50A Extension Cord, NEMA 14-50 Extension Cord,...

Check Price at Amazon

Parkworld is one of the only companies that make a 100 foot RV extension cord for both 30 and 50 amp power.

One of the additional nice things about its RV power cords is the plugs are fairly small which means they are easier to fit through small spaces which may come in handy when feeding the extension cord through various walls and compartments.

This 100 foot 50 amp RV power cord is very heavy duty. It uses 6/3C+8/1C copper wire with an STW jacket that is weather, heat, and oil resistant.

The plugs both use the standard 14-50 4 prong layout with 90 degree angles for RV use.

Once again, this 50 amp power cord isn’t for twist lock RV outlets.

Both of the plug heads have LED lights in them to indicate if the RV power cord is getting power.

The small plug size doesn’t mean there aren’t grip handles. Instead of having large grips molded into the plastic of the plug, Parkworld uses a small plastic strap that can fold down to use as grips.

They aren’t as heavy duty as some of the other plugs in this review but they get the job done and make disconnecting the cable easier.

Even with the extra long length, it’s still rated for 125 volts and 7,500 watts or 250 volts and 12,500 watts.

The entire cable weighs a whopping 68 lbs so make sure you are ready for the additional pounds when storing this beast of an extension cord.

The Parkworld RV 50 Amp Extension Cord is for those who need a lot of length to get to their RV.

Most of the time this 50 amp RV extension cord is used in a more permanent setting like at home or a small RV park. It has enough length to be placed out of the way and the durability to withstand the weather.

PROS

  • Grip Handles
  • Small Plugs Heads
  • Extra Long Length
  • LED Indicators On Both Ends
  • Heavy Duty Jacket & Cables

CONS

  • 1 Length Option
  • Super Heavy
  • No Straps or Bags Included

Now it’s time for the SS2-50R style 50 amp RV extension cords.

This version of the RV Guard 50 amp power cord is for RVs that have the twist lock style of outlets on the outside.

The benefit of getting this style of power cord for your RV is to decrease the number of connections between your camper and the power source.

It helps reduce the risk for any issues since there’s less that can go wrong.

The female plug is SS2-50P that sticks straight out and the male end is the standard 14-50R with a 90 degree angle for 50 amp RV power outlets.

The male end also has a built in grip for easy disconnecting.

The female end has an LED light to indicate if it’s getting power or not.

The inner cables are made with 6/3+8/1 gauge copper wire with the standard STW jacket that is weather, heat, and oil resistant.

There are 3 length options: 15, 25, and 50 feet. The longest 50 foot version weighs around 33 lbs.

Included with purchase is a plastic cable strap and a bag.

The RV Guard Locking 50 Amp Extension Cord is a fantastic option for those who have a 50 amp twist lock receptacle on their camper.

This is most common on 5th-wheels and large travel trailers.

Make sure your RV has this style of receptacle before purchasing.

  • Heavy Duty Jacket & Cables

Kohree only makes a 50 foot 50 amp RV extension cord but I wanted to add it to this review because of its super durable and well make plugs.

This is another power cord with an SS2-50R female end for twist-lock receptacles. There’s an LED power indicator on the female plug as well.

The male end uses the standard 14-50P configuration and a 90 degree head to fit 50 amp RV outlets. It also has a built in grip with 3 finger holes to help with disconnecting the plug.

Like all the high quality 50 amp RV extension cords in this review, the Kohree uses  6/3+8/1 copper wire and an STW jacket that’s weather, heat, and oil resistant.

Conclusion About 50 Amp RV Extension Cords

The two main things you need to think about when looking for the best 50 amp RV extension cord for you is what kind of plugs and what length you need.

If your 50 amp RV has an SS2-50 receptacle on the outside the best choice will be power cords with a compatible female plug. If your RV just has the standard 14-50 end on it then you will need one of those.

When sending lots of power long distances you want as few connections as possible. If you can get away with not having to connect two or more RV extension cords that’s going to be the safest option.

Most RV parks won’t have the power pedestal too far away but sometimes an extra 25 feet can be good to have on hand just in case.

The longer 50 and 100 foot lengths are mostly going to be necessary when camping outside someone’s home or when making your own RV spot.

Useful 50 Amp RV Plug Adapters

Camco 50A to 30A RV Plug Adapter

Camco PowerGrip Camper/RV Dogbone Electrical Adapter | Features 30-Amp...

Check Price at Amazon

Probably the most useful RV plug adapter you can have is a 50 to 30 amp.

The reason is that 50 amp service is still a relatively new thing and not all campgrounds and RV parks have caught up.

You may stay somewhere that only have a 30 amp outlet and even though you will not get as much power as you’re used to you need a way to still be able to plug in.

This dogbone RV adapter by Camco is a must have for travelers who stay in lots of different RV parks and campgrounds.

The female end is for standard 14-50R 50 amp plugs and the male end is a TT-30P to connect to 30 amp RV outlets.

A 50 Amp RV can take in as much as 12,500 watts of power but 30 amps can only supply up to 3,600 watts of power.

This RV plug adapter is rated a little higher at 3,750 watts for safety and uses 125 volt power.

Both plugs use the 90 degree design to take the stress off of RV cables and to fit power pedestals better.

There are grips molded into the plug heads for easier disconnecting.

The Camco 50A to 30A RV Plug Adapter is for anyone with a 50 amp camper.

Even those with twist lock outlets on their RV can use this adapter since it converts the power at the end of the power cable and not the beginning.

Sometimes when using a small generator or when you’re visiting friends or small campgrounds the only power available is a standard wall outlet. You want to have this on hand just in case.

Even though the amount of power you can get from this dogbone RV plug adapter is very small in comparison to full 50 amp service (1,725 from 12,500 watts) it’s still enough electricity to power a tv, lights, fridge, and keep your RV batteries charged.

The female end connects to standard 14-50 plugs and the male end is for Nema 5-15 outlets (standard 3 hole wall outlets).

When using this dogbone adapter make sure you don’t use the electric water heater or air conditioners since the outlet won’t be able to supply that much power.

Since RV outlets are usually only found in RV Parks and campgrounds having the Campelify 50A to 15A RV Plug Adapter on hand is going to be useful when storing your 50 amp camper at home or anywhere else where there’s a regular outlet nearby.

This RV plug adapter is for campers that have an SS2-50 outlet only. You won’t need this if your camper uses a standard 14-50 50 amp plug.

The reason to have this kind of RV adapter on hand is if you accidentally bought a 50 Amp RV extension cord that is for regular 50 amp RV outlets or if you are tired of messing with the twist-lock design which can be a pain to disconnect all of the time.

The Parkworld 50 Amp SS2-50R to 14-50P RV Plug Adapter can deliver the full 50 amp service power and it’s made with quality 6 gauge copper wire inside.
