The Mega 1 expandable and powered by durable LiFePO4 batteries.
On paper, it looks like a solid power station, but how does it perform? Let’s dive into its specifications before discussing the performance, pros and cons.
Oupes Mega 1 Specifications
Battery Capacity
The Mega 1 features a 1024Wh battery, allowing you to power a 100W device for approximately 10 hours.
With durable LiFePO4 batteries, it can withstand over 3,500 charging cycles before dropping to 80% of its original capacity. This far outlasts the more common Li-Ion batteries, typically rated for around 500 cycles.
For expanded power, Oupes offers the B2 extra battery. You can connect up to two of these, boosting the total battery capacity to 5,120Wh.
Power Inverter
The pure sine wave inverter is rated at 2000W with a 4500W surge, making it slightly more powerful than a standard 15A household outlet (1800W).
This means it can handle everything you’d typically plug into a regular outlet, from kitchen appliances to electronics and chargers.
In my tests, it consistently delivered 1800W without issue. However, keep in mind that this will drain the 1024Wh battery quickly, as running an 1800W appliance for an hour requires a minimum of 1800Wh.
The inverter showed about 85% efficiency at a 1000W draw—not bad, though not the highest in its class.
Ports
One standout feature of the Oupes Mega 1 is its thoughtfully arranged ports.
It includes four 20A AC outlets with ample space between them, preventing the crowding issues often seen with other power stations. Oupes clearly prioritized usability here.
There are also six USB ports: four standard 18W USB-A ports and two powerful 100W USB-C ports.
Additionally, it offers a regulated 12V cigarette lighter port and two DC 5521 outputs.
The AC and Anderson inputs are conveniently located on the right side, while the left side houses a connection port for the extra battery.
I like that the input and outputs ports aren’t all located on the front of the power station.
Charging
The Mega 1 charges fully in 60 minutes using the included AC charger, with a fast-charging option (1400W/700W) adjustable in the Oupes mobile app.
It’s equipped with an MPPT solar charge controller supporting solar panels rated from 18 to 75 volts, up to 14A, and maxes out at 800W solar input.
Oupes includes an MC4 to Anderson cable, making it compatible with most solar panels on the market right out of the box.
A car charger is also provided, capable of recharging the battery in just under 13 hours.
Display
The front display provides all essential information, including input/output wattage, battery percentage, time to empty/full, active ports, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth status, and any warnings.
Other Features
As I mentioned earlier, the battery is expandable. It supports up to two B2 Extra batteries (click to view at Oupes.com), which each has a battery capacity of 2048Wh. The extra batteries are connected to the expandability ports found on the left side of the power station.
With built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, you can monitor and control the device with a smartphone app. As far as I can tell, the app is only available on iOS and Amazon, but not Android.
I noticed that the reviews for the iOS app were mostly negative, but I haven’t had any issues connecting to and controlling the Mega 1 with the app.
It has a built-in UPS (EPS) mode with a 20 ms delay. Oupes does not recommend relying on this for devices that require 0 ms switching.
In The Box
Oupes includes an AC charging cable, a car charger, and an MC4 to Anderson adapter.
Size And Weight
It weighs 27.8 lbs (12.6 kg) and measures 15.1 x 9.1 x 11.6 inches (38.4 x 23.2 x 29.5 cm).
My Review
Like
LiFePO4
The LiFePO4 batteries in the Mega 1 are built for longevity. With proper care, such as maintaining a 20-80% charge during regular use and storing at around 40-60%, these batteries could easily last 5-10 years before any noticeable drop in capacity.
Great selection of ports
While not unique to the Mega 1, the port selection and layout are thoughtfully designed. The 20A outlets have generous spacing, and placing inputs on the side keeps the front clear, especially handy in tight spaces like an RV, where frequent connections won’t clutter the setup.
The display
The display provides all the critical details at a glance. Battery percentage is large and visible from afar, with input/output wattage and time-to-empty/full updating promptly, making it easy to track power usage.
Powerful inverter
Rated at 2000W, the inverter is robust enough for most kitchen appliances and power tools, though just shy of 20A.
Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
App-based control is a welcome feature for easy monitoring, and the app has been responsive in my experience. However, a downside is that it’s currently unavailable on the Google Play Store.
Expandable
The Mega 1’s expandable battery option is a plus. Many power stations lack this flexibility, but with Mega 1, you can boost capacity effortlessly, meeting a growing demand for expandable power stations.
To expand the battery, you must purchase the B2 extra battery.
Fast charging and high solar input
The included AC charger enables a full recharge in just 60 minutes, with the option to cap it at 700W to reduce battery strain.
The MPPT solar charge controller supports panels up to 75V and 800W, enabling fast solar recharging.
Plus, Oupes includes an MC4 to Anderson adapter to make it quick and easy to get going with solar.
Don’t Like
Fan turns on when using USB C output
A minor gripe I found when testing the Mega 1 is that the fan turns on whenever I use the USB-C PD outputs.
Conclusion
After testing the Mega 1 for a couple of weeks, I can confidently say it’s my favorite 1kWh portable power station.
It checks all the boxes for a power station this size and delivers impressive performance.
For its price, it offers outstanding value, and I hope Oupes continues releasing power stations—they clearly know what they’re doing.
