Best Folding Camping Tables 2019 (Cooking, Storage, Dining)

The Different Kinds Of Folding Camping Tables

There are two parts to this post. Part one is about the best outdoor kitchen station tables for camping, and part two is about the best dining and utility tables for camping. Use the quick navigation to the right to navigate the post quickly.

Camping tables. A particular product category filled with both great and less great products. Inside the camping table category, there are tables for different uses. Tables made just for cooking with stoves and grills, some of them are whole outdoor kitchen stations with sinks. Then there are utility tables for dining and smaller end tables where some have drink holders.

What they all have in common is that they fold down and store easily. They’re very portable that way, and folding down a table and putting it in your RV storage compartment sure is easier than having a non-folding table that takes up a ton of space.

See Also: Best Camping Stoves – From Small To Large

Since there are different tables for different uses, we’ll split them up on today’s list. First we’ll take a look at camping tables that work great for outdoor kitchens. These often have a spot for a burner, stove, or grill and more storage than we see at dining and end tables. We’ll see one with a built-in sink, and most of them have paper towel holders and hooks for cooking accessories. Then we’ll take a look at the dining and end tables that have more casual all-around uses at the campsite.

All the tables on both lists today are tables that we’ve had the chance to see, feel and judge. We have only picked tables that are winners in our book, and we’ll tell you our honest opinion about them all.

Now, let’s start with the camping cooking tables.

A Closer Look At Each Camping Kitchen/Cooking Table

Coleman Pack-Away Portable Kitchen

Coleman Pack-Away Portable Kitchen

Check Price at Amazon

Coleman makes two versions of this table, and if you want to see the more deluxe version scroll down or use the quick-navigation on the right to get to the deluxe model.

This portable camp kitchen is made for the campers that want to have an outdoor kitchen set up where they can cook all their meals. It has a place to put a grill or a two burner stove like a Camp Chef or Coleman’s burners. The spot for burners measures 27.8 by 20.5 inches so if you already have a burner, make sure it’s not too big before purchasing.

Next to the burner side table is a food prep area that is a solid piece. This table measures 31.5 by 21.3 inches and is placed slightly higher than the burner table, so when you have a burner on the table it will be at about the same height.

Underneath the main table, there’s a mesh shelf where you can store lighter items. On top of the table there are four elevated hooks and a pole that goes to an additional hook where you can hang a lantern for cooking in early mornings or late evenings.

When you’re all done, the Coleman Pack-Away folds down and turns into a very compact case for easy carrying and storage. In total it weighs 14.5 pounds and its weight capacity is 300 pounds.

The Coleman Pack-Away Portable Kitchen is a really neat little outdoor kitchen that you can leave set up and use as your kitchen during a whole camping trip. While it doesn’t have a sink like the Coleman Pack-Away Deluxe Portable Kitchen, it’s a very portable and well-built table. We love how the main table is the main food prep area but also what turns into the case. Not having a bag or case on the side you have to deal with while the kitchen is unfolded is a big plus.

PROS

  • Compact design
  • Food prep area, side table for a stove
  • Several hooks
  • Mesh shelf

CONS

  • Legs not as stable as alternatives
  • Wouldn’t put heavy items on the mesh shelf

Lifetime Folding Tailgate Camp Table with Grill Rack, White

Lifetime 280312 Folding Tailgate Table with Grill Rack

Check Price at Amazon

Lifetime 280312 is a folding tailgate table with a grill rack on the side. The grill rack is made out of steel and the main table is made out of plastic. The grill rack can hold up to 30 pounds, and the table 200 pounds.

A paper towel holder is built-in, as well as a trash bag holder that folds out from the grill rack. There are also hooks on the grill rack to hold cooking accessories. On top of the table there are four shallow cup holders where you can put a drink.

The grill rack and the legs fold into the table which has a molded-in handle and becomes portable and easy to carry. At 25 pounds it’s somewhat cumbersome to carry long distances.

The plastic used is polyethylene and UV-protected. It’s easy to wipe off as it has a hard surface that won’t rust or corrode.

Measuring 76.3 inches in total, where 48 of those are the table main table length. 29.2 inches high, and 24 inches deep. The legs on this specific model are not adjustable.

We like the Lifetime 280312 Folding Tailgate Table with Grill Rack for a couple of reasons. The first thing we noticed is how easy it is to set up, it only takes a couple of seconds to get it done. We also like the frills. A paper towel holder, molded-in handle, garbage bag holder, hooks, and cup holders are all built-in. We wish the cup holders would be slightly deeper so drinks wouldn’t get knocked over as easily, but it’s still nice to have a place on the table made for drinks.

We have used this table several times and keep it in the back of our truck and don’t have any big complaints. It’s a solid camping kitchen table that can take a beating, and that’s exactly what we need.

PROS

  • Food prep area, side table for a stove
  • Several hooks
  • Garbage bag holder
  • Paper towel holder
  • Molded-in handle
  • Folds/unfolds in seconds
  • Very easy to clean

CONS

  • Shallow cup holders

Camco 57293 Deluxe Folding Grill Table

Camco Deluxe Folding Grill Table

Check Price at Amazon

Camco makes this deluxe folding grill table that is one of our top picks because of what it has to offer. It has most things we’re looking for in a camping cooking table.

A large tabletop that measures 59 x 19 x 32 inches can hold a grill or stove without issues. Two side shelves measuring 18 x 15 inches each will hold your food, accessories, and drinks while you’re cooking. Both side shelves have two hooks each, and one of them has a genius but simple paper towel holder.

Below the main tabletop, there is a wire shelf which is an excellent place to store dishes and pans. There is no information on the weight capacity of each part of this kitchen table, but in total it can hold up to 100 pounds.

When you’re done and ready to pack down, the tabletop and wire shelf comes off, and the rest folds down and go into an included carrying bag which has a handle for easy transport and storage. Altogether, the table and shelves weigh 27.5 pounds. In storage, the table measures 37 x 20 x 6 inches.

The Camco Deluxe Folding Grill Table is a table that we recommend for its design. We really like the main tabletop and the lower wire shelf. We wish the side tables would’ve been a little more sturdy. They will hold food and drinks fine, but we wouldn’t put lots of weight on them. The hooks are awesome, and the paper towel holder will keep your paper towels in place (which some of the other tables have issues with), so all-in-all, it’s a great table.

PROS

  • Carrying bag included
  • Several hooks
  • Paper towel holder
  • Two side shelves and one wire shelf
  • Great big tabletop

CONS

  • Side tables could’ve been sturdier (nitpicking)

GCI Outdoor Slim-Fold Camp Kitchen Portable Folding Cook Station

GCI Outdoor Slim-Fold Camp Kitchen

Check Price at Amazon

GCI Outdoor makes this slim-fold camp kitchen that is very portable and relatively lightweight at 18.9 pounds.

A big heat-resistant aluminum countertop will hold a grill or stove weighing up to 48 pounds. Four side shelves have hooks and cup holders. It also comes with a paper towel holder to hang on one of the side shelves.

Below the main countertop, there is a wire shelf that can hold up to 35 pounds — a great place for dishes, pans, and bags.

It’s a very compact table that is set up and folded down in a couple of seconds. A carry handle will make transporting the table easy.

One of the great things about the GCI Outdoor table is how easy it is to clean. This table doesn’t have any parts that can be damaged by water as some of the other tables do. Spray it off with a hose, fold it down, and put it in the back of the truck. Something we realized early on about camping accessories that need a bag to hold all parts is that it takes more planning to pack in and out. You don’t want to put a wet table in a bag, so if you want to spray it off with a hose you have to let it dry before you can fold it down. Whether this is a big deal to you or not depends on the way you travel. For us, a table that can be sprayed off and directly put in the truck bed is the best option.

Maybe you never feel the need to spray your table off with a hose, so what else is so good about the GCI Outdoor Slim-Fold Camp Kitchen? It’s stable, has lots of shelves with frills like hooks, cup and paper towel holders, and a good sized wire shelf. Last but not least, it’s lightweight without sacrificing stability due to the design.

PROS

  • Several hooks
  • Paper towel holder
  • Four side shelves and one wire shelf
  • Great big tabletop
  • Folds/unfolds in seconds
  • Very easy to clean

CONS

  • Weak cloth handle

Coleman Pack-Away Deluxe Portable Kitchen

Coleman Pack-Away Deluxe Portable Kitchen

Check Price at Amazon

The Deluxe version of the Coleman Pack-Away Portable Kitchen that we looked at the beginning is this portable kitchen station by Coleman. There are a couple of differences that we’ll go through, but a big one is the fact that it weighs more than twice as much as the smaller model, at 36.5 pounds.

Other than the size, it has a sink, a garbage bag holder, two big wire shelves where one is for stoves, two smaller shelves, five hooks, and a paper towel holder. It’s a more advanced kitchen station with more features than the non deluxe version.

The sink takes up part of the counter space and does not have a drain in it. The food prep area measures 39.4 by 19.7 inches still though and should be more than enough to get your food ready. The sink is big enough to get a couple of dishes done. To empty the water in the tub you remove it and dump it.

Next to the food prep area is the grill rack which has more heavy duty legs than the non deluxe version. All legs on this kitchen station are more heavy duty than on its little brother.

When it comes to size, the portable kitchen measures 74.5 by 64 by 20 inches when set up and 39.5 by 7 x 20 inches when closed. It folds down into a suitcase style case with a handle on top for easy transport and storage.

A lantern holder will let you hang a light to keep the kitchen lit up at night and early mornings, making the kitchen usable at all hours. It’s a small detail Coleman has added but I like it and it’s something my wife and I would use often.

So is the Coleman Pack-Away Deluxe Portable Kitchen worth the upgrade from the smaller version? I would say it’s mostly about whether you want to have a sink or not, you can just put a cheap bucket on the smaller version and you’ll have a sink. It is more sturdy but it makes it heavier. If you’re often stationary and don’t care much about the weight, it can be a great choice and it’s a table that will last you a long time. Take care of it and it will take care of you and your cooking.

PROS

  • Several hooks
  • Paper towel holder
  • Two larger wire shelves, two smaller
  • Sink
  • Lantern holder
  • Garbage bag holder
  • Very sturdy

CONS

  • Heavy

Camp Chef Sherpa Camp Table & Organizer

Camp Chef Sherpa Table

Check Price at Amazon

The last outdoor kitchen table on today’s list is made by Camp Chef, and it’s called Sherpa. It’s a table for organized people that don’t want to set up much but always have their cooking gear and accessories in place. This is done with four zippered compartments that sit on shelves underneath the table top. When it’s time to take down camp, all you have to do is remove the table top and retract the legs. The rest stays the way it is and will take up more space than the other tables but requires little setup when you arrive at your next campsite.

Each storage bag measures 12 by 11 by 6.5 inches. Camp Chef advertises that if you remove the two bottom storage bags, there is enough space to store their Camp Chef MS2HP Stove and other Mountain Series stoves.

With legs collapsed, the table measures 16 by 27 x 18 inches. With legs extended, the table can be up to 28 inches high. The table top measures 27 by 17 inches.

To transfer the Sherpa table from your campsite to your car, truck or RV, Camp Chef has put a handle on both sides. To stop the bags from falling out, a zippered wall closes up and keeps the bags in place.

What we like about the Camp Chef Sherpa Table is how robust it feels. We would feel confident storing all our outdoor kitchen cooking gear in the different compartments. Thanks to the size of each bag you could even store frying pans and pots. It keeps all your things organized and it’s incredibly easy to pack up and leave. Would it be nice to have the ability to unfold the whole table so it becomes smaller? Sure, but a big feature of the Sherpa table is that you don’t have to, so in one way it only fits a certain kind of camper. It’s a great table that we recommend, even though it’s not one of our personal top choices.

PROS

  • Sturdy
  • Four storage compartments, heavy-duty zippered bags
  • Sets up the fastest out of all outdoor kitchen tables
  • Table top big enough for a stove

CONS

  • Doesn’t collapse much for storage except for legs

Conclusion And Recommendations – Cooking Tables

What outdoor kitchen table/station that will fit you and your style of camping depend on how much cooking gear and accessories you have. For us that travel full-time in an RV, we do most of our cooking in the trailer and grill outside as much as possible. Therefore, a flat table with a grill rack works best for us. If you’re a tent camper, you’ll want more storage compartments and would probably be okay with keeping your cooking accessories in your table with a product like the Camp Chef Sherpa Table.

Today our recommendations are based mostly on the features you get out of the table based on how portable it is and its weight. All of them are great choices, and I hope you can find what will fit your camping situation the best.

Good: Camco Deluxe Folding Grill Table – I like what Camco has done with their Deluxe folding table. It packs a ton of features and has enough space for both the preparation stage and the cooking stage. With several hooks, paper towel holder, wire shelf, and a big countertop, it will be perfect for somebody that loves to cook outdoors.

Better: Lifetime 280312 Folding Tailgate Table with Grill Rack – The Lifetime tailgate table is the table my wife and I decided to buy. It’s the most versatile choice on today’s list that works both as a food prep area, cooking area, and a dining table. It folds down and is easily stored. It’s sturdy enough to use as a dining table and extremely easy to clean. A great product that always is set up at our camp.

Best: GCI Outdoor Slim-Fold Camp Kitchen – GCI Outdoor has made our favorite outdoor cooking table on the list and it’s great for lots of reasons. Not only does it have the frills that we’ve seen on some other tables, like the hooks, paper towel holder and wire shelf. It has four side tables but still folds down to a flat package. The only negative thing we found is the cloth handle that we can’t see hold up for years, but that’s something GCI Outdoor could easily fix. Other than that, it’s our favorite compact kitchen station that will hold all your cooking gear and assist you in making wonderful camping meals.

A Closer Look At Each Utility/Dining Camping Table

Preferred Nation Folding Table, Polyester with Metal Frame, 4 Mesh Cup Holders, Compact, Convenient Carry Case Included - Black

Preferred Nation Folding Table

Check Price at Amazon

A company called Preferred Nation makes this round little folding table made out of polyester and metal. The frame is metal while the tabletop and the shelf underneath is polyester.

Four deep cup holders will hold your drinks secured which makes it great for people that camp with kids. Securing drinks, so they don’t fall over when other things get put on the table or bumped is a great feature.

The table is lightweight at only 5 pounds and measures 28 by 28 by 24 inches. When it’s time to pack it down, it goes into an included carrying bag for easy transport and storage while protecting the table.

We like the Preferred Nation Folding Table for its portability and cup holders. It’s a table that can be brought to the beach and hold drinks and other items so you don’t have to put it in the sand. The four rigid feet will sit steadily on the sand and the polyester and metal will hold up fine against water and sand. It’s not the most stable table on today’s list, but it’s more a utility table than a dining table.

PROS

  • Cup holders
  • Lightweight (5 lbs)
  • Shelf underneath tabletop
  • Folds and stores in the included bag

CONS

  • Tabletop space limited due to cup holders

Coleman Outdoor Folding Table | Ultra Compact Aluminum Camping Table

Coleman Outdoor Compact Table

Check Price at Amazon

Coleman makes this neat little folding table that can be used for lots of things around the campground. Made out of steel and aluminum it’s a table that will take a beating and last a long time.

The tabletop folds and sits on top of the steel frame. It all snaps together when set up correctly.

Measuring 27.6 by 27.6 by 27.6 it’s big enough to seat four people for dinner and with a weight capacity of 100 pounds, it’s sturdy enough to do so safely.

Although the table feels pretty sturdy, we wish the feet would’ve been bigger as we think that would’ve made it feel even sturdier and secure on the ground.

Taking down the table is easy with its folding frame and tabletop, and the included carrying bag will keep it compact and secure during transport. The table weighs 9 pounds.

We mostly like the Coleman Outdoor Compact Table for its looks and folding design. It’s advertised as being big enough to seat four people and while it can do that, it’s pushing it. We see it more as a utility table that can be used next to your kitchen station, or as a table for the kids. Note that unless you’re a short person or sitting low to the ground, your knees will hit the frame when you’re seated which is another reason we don’t recommend it as a dining table.

PROS

  • Folds and stores in the included bag
  • Lightweight (9 lbs)
  • Steel frame and aluminum table top looks great

CONS

  • Small feet
  • Frame hits knees when an adult is seated

Outry Lightweight Folding Table with Cup Holders, Portable Camp Table (L - Unfolded: 29.5' x 22' x 21')

Outry Lightweight Folding Table with Cup Holders

Check Price at Amazon

Another table that is a lot like the Preferred Nation Folding Table is the Outry lightweight folding table. Outry has made this square folding table that comes in two sizes, medium and large.

Both sizes have a heavy duty ripstop 600D nylon fabric tabletop with a lightweight aluminum alloy frame. The most significant difference between the sizes is that the large version has four cup holders instead of two found on the medium version.

The large model is also larger, of course, measuring 29.5 by 22 by 21 inches when unfolded, while the medium measures 22 by 17 by 15 inches. When folded down and put into the included carrying bag, the large model measures 30 by 3 inches and the medium 23.6 by 3 inches. Large weighs 2.6 pounds, versus medium’s 1.7 pounds.

Bring it to the beach, or keep it at the campground. Either way, it’s effortless to transport since it’s so lightweight.

Just like we saw with the Coleman Outdoor Compact Table, the frame design makes it hard to use as a dining table and as with the Preferred Nation Folding Table the cup holders limits the tabletop space due to the cup holders.

The Outry Lightweight Folding Table with Cup Holders is a utility table that can be carried and set up by anybody, which makes it a great table for when you’re taking the kids to the beach, or need a table outside your RV for drinks and smaller items.

PROS

  • Two sizes
  • Cup holders
  • Extremely lightweight
  • Folds and stores in the included bag

CONS

  • Easily tipped over with nothing on it

Lifetime 4428 Height Adjustable Craft Camping and Utility Folding Table, 4 ft, 4'/48 x 24, White Granite

Lifetime 4428 Height Adjustable Craft

Check Price at Amazon

In the outdoor kitchen table, we looked at the Lifetime 280312 Folding Tailgate Table with Grill Rack that my wife and I own and use regularly. The Lifetime 4428 is a lot like that table with more focus on utility and dining than just cooking.

You won’t find any frills like a paper towel holder, cup holders, or grill rack. Instead, you’re getting a folding plastic table with adjustable height, which makes it a great dining and utility table.

It measures 48 x 24 inches when set up, and has three heights to choose from. 24 inches, 29 inches, and 36 inches. When it’s time to leave, the legs fold in, the tabletop folds in half, and a cloth handle makes it easy to transport and put it in storage.

With a rust-resistant powder-coated steel frame and a UV-protected polyethylene plastic tabletop, it’s a very durable choice that can handle any weather.

It feels very sturdy and with a weight capacity rating of 800 pounds, Lifetime guarantees that it will handle everything you put on it without sacrificing stability.

What my wife and I love about the Lifetime 4428 Height Adjustable Craft and other Lifetime tables like it, is how easy it is to clean. We spray ours off with a hose when it’s filthy after a camping trip and it handles water so well that we feel confident it will last for years to come.

We also like the adjustable height, as it’s a very uncommon feature with camping tables. It’s impressive that it can hold so much weight even though the legs are adjustable.

But with the solid plastic tabletop that can only fold once comes a con compared to the other tables, as it can’t be folded down and put in a carrying bag. This means that it’s harder to store and more bulky to transport. What you need to consider is if you’re going to have enough space to store this table, or if a table that goes into a bag will be a better choice.

PROS

  • Durable
  • Stable
  • 800 pound weight capacity
  • Folds in half
  • Adjustable height
  • Easy to clean
  • Great for dining and utility

CONS

  • Bulky storage and transport

ALPS Mountaineering Dining Table, Regular

ALPS Mountaineering Dining Table

Check Price at Amazon

ALPS Mountaineering is a company that makes high-quality camping gear. Tents, camping furniture, sleeping bags, camping accessories, and tables are what they’re most popular for. Their tables are popular for how robust, lightweight and how easy they are to store.

This dining table comes in three different sizes, square, regular, and X-Large. We’re looking at the X-large version.

It measures 28 by 43 by 28 inches when set up and weighs 12 pounds. When folded down and stored in the included carrying bag, it measures 42 by 8 by 5 inches.

It’s set up by unfolding the legs and rolling out the aluminum tabletop. The top locks in place with a bungee cord. The legs have an X frame design and are excellent for dining. If you’re sitting on the long side you won’t have any issues with knees hitting the frame. It does stop people from sitting on the short side though.

We were impressed with how sturdy the table was for being so lightweight. One negative is the bungee cord that locks the table top. We would’ve liked to see a more durable solution.

All in all, the ALPS Mountaineering Dining Table is a high-quality choice that would make a great dining table at the campground. It’s incredible how easy it is to store for how big the table is when unfolded.

PROS

  • Three sizes
  • Stable
  • Lightweight

The last table on today’s list and this long camping table article is from a company called KingCamp. They make this very neat and functional folding table that can seat up to six people. How is it done? Well, by using heavy-duty free standing legs, you can seat people all around the table.

The frame is made out of steel, and the tabletop is aluminum alloy with a fine grind finish and anode oxidation treatment. It’s a scratch and rust resistant material, so it’s perfect for the outdoors.

It can hold up to 176 pounds but feel incredibly stable due to its big legs and reinforced frame.

A spring buckle puts the tabletop in place after it has been rolled onto the frame. When it’s time to pack down, the whole table fits in the included storage bag.

The table measures 42 by 28 by 28 when set up, and 43 by 9 by 4 when collapsed. In total, it weighs 15 pounds, so it’s very portable and easy to store.

We like the KingCamp Camp Table for its stability and high-quality feel. It’s the table we plan on purchasing in the future after looking at each and comparing them. It’s big enough to be used as a dining table for a family as long as you don’t have huge chairs, or for two people to use as a cooking station and dining area. Our only wish is that there were some different sizes to choose from.

PROS

  • Stable
  • Seats 6 at most
  • Steel frame and tabletop
  • No issues with knees hitting the frame
  • Folds and stores in the included bag
  • Best legs out of all tables

CONS

  • Only comes in one size

Conclusion And Recommendations – Utility Tables

What utility and dining table is the best for you mostly depends on how many people you are, and whether you mostly need a utility or a dining table. We’ve looked at lots of tables that can be both, and based on what we like and our uses, here are our recommendations.

Good: Lifetime 4428 Height Adjustable Craft – No matter what campground you go to, I bet you’ll see a Lifetime table. They’re the most classic table for camping purposes, and for a good reason. They’re very durable, easy to set up, while very competitive in their pricing. The Lifetime 4428 is a great dining and utility table with adjustable legs and a design that has proven itself over and over to be a great camping table.

Better: ALPS Mountaineering Dining Table – Before we saw the KingCamp table, we were sure that ALPS Mountaineering dining table would be our top pick. And even if we like the KingCamp slightly more, ALPS Mountaineering has made a great table. It’s so easy to set up, so lightweight, yet so functional and sturdy. It’s an excellent choice for an all-around camping table.

Best: KingCamp Camp Table – Our top pick is the most sturdy, functional, and heavy-duty feeling portable camping table we have ever seen. We’re impressed by the legs, the frame, and the tabletop. You would expect it to weigh much more than 15 pounds, and the fact that it all fits in a carrying bag completes it. It’s a reliable choice that won’t disappoint and we feel confident recommending it for serious campers.

What To Consider

If you’re shopping for a camping table, you might already know what you need. Usually, all it takes is one camping trip and you realize what you’re missing and what you could use to make it all more convenient. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, let me help you with a couple of things to consider when looking for a portable camping table.

Cooking/Dining/Utility – What will be the primary purpose of the table? To hold a grill, hold your magazines on the beach, or to eat dinner on? Think about whether you want to be able to put your legs under the table and how many people need to be able to sit by it. Buying a big table when you most need one for the beach would be unnecessary.

Portability – Do you go tent camping or RV camping? How tight will you have it with storage, and how much do you have to move the table? The more you have to move it, the more weight will matter.

If you go RV camping, not all tables will fit in the storage and you might want one that collapses and goes in a bag. If you park your car and have to walk a mile to the beach, you’ll want one that is stored in a bag, maybe a smaller one with cup holders.

If you want a dining table to put outside your RV, get a sturdy one instead of a lightweight one. You’re going to appreciate the sturdiness of a good table that can handle some wind and bumps.

Durability – How many days a year do you plan on using the table? Do you want to leave it out at night? I don’t recommend leaving a cloth table out overnight and would recommend plastic or aluminum if you’re going to go camping for a week and leave the table out 24/7. The Lifetime tables are extremely durable while not as portable as some other options.
