The Portable Smart Air Fryer by Tastee

Air fryers have become a popular kitchen gadget for RV owners, campers, and anyone cooking in small spaces, offering a quick and energy-efficient method for preparing meals in compact kitchens.

The Tastee air fryer we are reviewing today shares similarities with our existing model from another brand, but introduces some intriguing additional features that make it especially appealing for travelers and those with limited cooking areas.

What We Like

Precision Cooking with Smart Probe

I always use a thermometer when cooking meat like pork, steak, or fish. Even a small change in temperature can totally change how great a meal turns out. That’s why I always check the temperature carefully.

The Tastee air fryer’s smart probe is really cool for cooking in RVs or small kitchens. Before, I used to open the air fryer a bunch of times to check how hot my salmon was.

Now, I can keep an eye on the temperature without letting any heat out. It’s way easier.

I made sure to test the temperature probe to see if it actually works right.

The probe is stored on the air fryer.

Smartphone app

There’s an app for everything, but do air fryers really need one?

We found the app pretty useful. It sends a notification when it’s time to flip the food, and you can easily browse recipes and pick how you want your meat cooked. I actually liked using the app more than the air fryer’s buttons, which can look complicated.

When cooking something like pork with the smart probe, the app tells you when it’s ready and lets you choose the exact temperature you want. That’s pretty cool. But will I use the app every single time I cook? Probably not.

Lots of settings

This air fryer has tons of smart features. Want super crispy fries? You can choose exactly how crispy you want them. It might take some trying out to figure out the best settings for your food, but you’ve got plenty of options to play with.

The air fryer has three main cooking modes: air fry, slow cook, and dehydrate. With a temperature range from 95 to 450 degrees, it can do a lot more than just quickly cook frozen food. You can air fry, slow cook, and even dehydrate.

I haven’t tried the dehydrator mode myself because I already have a dehydrator, and the space in an air fryer is pretty small.

The window

Our other air fryer doesn’t have a see-through window, and we really missed that feature. When cooking, we always had to stop the fryer and open it just to check on our food. It got pretty annoying. The Tastee air fryer’s window is awesome because now we can watch our food cook without interrupting the process.

High max temperature

Our air fryer maxes out at 400℉, this one goes to 450℉. I cooked nothing that maxed out the temperature, but I imagine it’s useful to some.

Easy to clean

Air fryers are great for easy cleanup, and the Tastee model is just as simple as our other one.

Things You Should Know

The capacity

The 5.5 quart basket works great for two people, but it’s too small for a family of four. You won’t be able to fit four pork chops in here, but this is a problem with most air fryers.

If you’re cooking for one person or a larger group, make sure to check the size before you buy. Think about how many people you usually cook for and whether this basket will work for your needs.

Power usage

Any electric device that makes heat uses a lot of power. If you’re at an RV park with hookups, running this air fryer won’t be an issue. But when you’re boondocking and relying on a power station or 12V battery with an inverter, you’ll definitely notice how much electricity it takes to cook.

The Tastee air fryer is rated at 1700W, so you should not connect it to an inverter not capable of outputting at least 1800W, but it doesn’t use 1700Wh every hour.

Once it hits the right temperature, it stops heating until it needs to warm up again.

If you’re air frying frozen fries for 30 minutes, it will probably use 300-600Wh. That’s not much compared to a regular oven, but if your power station has 2000Wh, expect to lose 15-30% of its charge.

Complex controls

The controls on this air fryer have a lot of options, and it took me some time to understand how they work. I ended up using the smartphone app most of the time because it was easier. If you don’t use smartphones much, you’ll definitely want to read the manual carefully to figure everything out.

Conclusion

We really like the Tastee air fryer (use coupon code TCN for $35 off) because it has cool smart features and works just as well as our other air fryer, which cost twice as much. For RV and camping trips, this could be a great cooking tool that doesn’t take up too much space.

Once you learn the different settings, it can cook your food perfectly. But if you want a super simple air fryer that you can just turn on and forget, you might want a less “smart” model.

One tip: using the presets will make cooking take longer because the fryer goes through multiple cooking phases. But you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to.

We’ve only used the air fryer for a couple of weeks. We plan to use it more, and if we have any new thoughts or run into any problems, we’ll update our review.
