Chosa Campground Camping Info<\/h2>\n

The Chosa Campground is an awesome simple BLM campground that’s not too far from the main highway you can stay at for up to 14 days.<\/p>\n

It’s close to the popular Sunset Reef Campground (click to see review)<\/a> and it’s not too far from the Carlsbad Caverns National Park.<\/p>\n

It’s a very accessible free camping area that’s just off the highway and about a half mile down a paved road.<\/p>\n

The design is very simple. It’s just a giant fenced in square with gravel. There are some weeds growing but for the most part, it’s just like a big parking lot out in the desert.<\/p>\n

One of the awesome things about open campgrounds like this is they are very RV friendly and accessible for any size of camper. You can also easily pull in late at night and park anywhere to get some sleep.<\/p>\n

In October the weather was nice and it wasn’t getting too cold at night so camping was excellent. And it wasn’t crowded at all, especially when compared to the Sunset Reef Campground.<\/p>\n

As you can see in the picture above most campers were parked along the fence line while there were a few people camping in the center.<\/p>\n

Everyone was well spaced out and it was a surprisingly nice place to stay for a few nights.<\/p>\n

Well made fire ring at the Chosa Campground.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The only amenity in the campground was a giant dumpster in the corner. There were also a few handmade fire rings spread out along the fenceline so watch out for those if you’re driving looking for a spot.<\/p>\n

There we’re a lot of thistles and tumbleweeds growing all over the area so be careful if you have pets that need to be walked.<\/p>\n

Chosa Campground Review<\/h2>\n

There’s really not a ton to say about the simple little free campground.<\/p>\n

The location is great being just 10 miles from the Carlsbad Caverns National Park and there’s no long dirt road you have to drive down to get to it.<\/p>\n

The Guadalupe Mountains in the distance are gorgeous and we saw some amazing sunrises and sunset while we were camping there.<\/p>\n

The only slight downside is there isn’t really a very good dump station in the area but there is an RV park in Whites City, NM you may be able to dump and refill water.<\/p>\n

Cell service was ok on both Verizon and AT&T but data speeds were a little slow at times.<\/p>\n

The Chosa Campground doesn’t have a lot of extras but it’s a nice free camping area that’s accessible for any size of RV. It’s also close to Carlsbad Cavern NP. <\/p>\n
